Hiking suggestions
Gasselhöhe about Rippetegg and Schober to the Gassel lakes:
Starting point Eiskarhütte (on the Reiteralm bei Pichl) - Gasselhöhe - Rippetegg - upper Gassel lakes- (Schober-) Mitter lake - (lower Gassel lakes-) Reiteralm.
Walking time 3 ½ hours without Schober and lower lakes; Walking time 5 hours with these sightings.
Sure footedness necessary. A scenic highlight in the Alps.
Oberhütten lake - Seekarscharte- Klamml:
Starting point Vögeialm in the Forstautal (parking) - Oberhütte at Oberhütten lake - Seekarscharte - Vögeialm.
Walking time 4 hours
Easy walk to the Oberhütte. Over Klamml sometimes footedness necessary. Charming landscapes along three streams.
From the Ursprungalm to the Giglach lakes:
Starting point Ursprungalm (accessible via the Preunegg vale, of which 8 km toll road) over the Preunegg anticline to the Ignaz Matthis hut - then circumnavigation of the lakes - Giglach lake hut - Ursprungalm.
Walking time 3 ½ hours.
Easy hike.
Lungauer Kalkspitze 2.471 and Steirische Kalkspitze 2.459 m:
The starting point is also the Ursprungalm - Preunegg anticline - Ahkarscharte - Lungauer Kalkspitze - Ahkarscharte - Steirische Kalkspitze - Ahkarscharte- (Giglach lake)- Ursprungalm;
Walking time 5 h, both peaks.
Upward to the Steirische Kalkspitze is footedness necessary. Wonderful views on the surrounding mountains and the Giglach lakes.
Duisitz lake and Neualm:
White water and a crystal clear mountain lake. Starting point parking after Tauerngold (Obertal/Rohrmoos) in the Eschach vale - Duisitzkar hut - Duisitz lake (1 ½ h) - Neualm (not serviced) (1 ½ h) - parking Eschach valel (1 h).
Walking time 4 hours.
One can arbitrarily extend the hike; opportunity of ascent to the Ignaz Matthis hut or to the Neualm and Keinprecht hut etc..
Keinprecht hut:
Starting point parking after the Tauerngold in the Eschach vale - Neualm - Keinprecht hut - Neualm - Eschach vale parking.
Walking time 4 hours.
Golling hut 1641 m:
Starting point the Riesach water fall inn in the Untertal/Rohrmoos - Golling hut and back.
Walking time 3 ½ hours.
Easy hike.
Hochgolling 2862 m:
The highest peak of the Niederen Tauern.
Hiking time from the Golling hut and back 7 hours.
Sturdy shoes, endurance, mountaineering experience and sure footedness in the fragile steep terrain necessary. N O T on ice!.
Riesach water fall; Riesach lake; Preintaler hut: and still to enduring hiker the Sonntagkar lakes:
The starting point is again the parking at the Riesach water fall inn. One can either take the forest road up to the Riesach lake (serviced hut) or the path beside the water fall ("Wilde Wasser Weg", 1 h); then you will reach after a 1 ½ hour hike first along the lake and then upward the Preintaler hut.
Walking time 5 hours.
Entranced hikers can rise the Sonntagkar lakes (1 hours ascend). You can stay over night at the Preintaler hut and hike the other day the hight route (footedness necessary) to the Planai (6 h).
Klafferkessel:
This natural wonder of the Schladminger Tauern lies between the Golling hut and the Preintaler hut and consists of a maze of lakes with a variety of colours and reflections and is laid out in multiple levels.
Starting point parking Riesach water fall inn - easy ascend to the Golling hut (2 h) - then the arduous climb to the Greifenberg (3 h, approx. 1.000 m altitude difference).
You are rewarded for this effort with a magnificent view down over the entire Klafferkessel. Now begins the descend to the upper Klafferscharte and to the upper (larger) Klaffer lake - then you hike between the maze of small lakes and ponds down to the Lämmerkar to the Preintaler hut (Attention: Follow always the path of the trail).
Pure walking time with ascend and descend to the parking Riesach water fall: 9 h.
We therefore recommend a prior overnight stay in the Golling hut so you have some time during the hike, to enjoy the magic of the Klafferkessel.

Route: Tappenkar lake - Franz Fischer hut - Südwiener hut - Seekar house (Obertauern) - Oberhütten lake - Ahkarscharte- Ignaz Matthis hut (Giglach lakes) - Keinprecht hut - Golling hut - Klafferkessel - Preintaler hut - Breitlahn hut (Sölk) - Schwarzen lake - Rantentörl - Rudolf Schober hut - Schimpelscharte - Hohen lake - St. Nikolei - Rudolf Schober hut - Schimpelscharte Hohen lake - St. Nikolei (Großsölk).
Larger groups need a reservation for the night.
In a bookstore or in the Tourist Office you can purchase a hiking map.
Ahorn lake:
Starting point Kneippanlage in Weißenbach/Haus; Kneippanlage - Ahorn lake (possibly the Grafenberger lake) and back.
Walking time 4 ½ hours.
Very nice hike, but some stamina is required by the partial steep rise. The effort is worthwhile.
Schwarzen lake - Putzenalm:
Starting point Breitlahn hut (Kleinsölk) - Schwarzen lake (serviced Harmeralm) - Putzenalm and back.
Walking time 4 hours.
Easy hike.
Bachalm-Südwand hut:
Starting point is the parking at the Dachsteinblick Inn (between Filzmoos and Ramsau) - approx. 20 min. to the Bachlalm - Schnittlauchmoosboden - Raucheck- Torboden - Auretskar - Südwand hut - back via the Maralm - Bachlalm.
Walking time 6 hours.
Good shoes and some endurance is required.
Parking Dachsteinruhe - Bachlalm - Maralm - Glösalm - parking Dachsteinruhe: Walking time 3 hours. Easy loop tour
Silberkarklamm:
Starting point parking Silberkarklamm (turn off to the parking lot at the Lodenwalker Ramsau) - ravine - Silberkar hut - back through the ravine or on a trail round the ravine - back to the parking.
Walking time 2 hours or 3 ½ hours on the trail. Ravine holding fee.
Guttenberg hut:
Starting point Feistererhof (Rössing road - Ramsau) - through the woods and later by the dwarf zone - through a cirque - to the highest shelter Guttenberg house 2.147 m on the Dachstein south side.
Stamina required, because steep ascend. Hiking time approx. 5 hours.
You can also hike through the Silberkarklamm or from the Dachstein mountain station to the Guttenberg house.
Hofpürgel hut:
Starting point Unterhofalm/Filzmoos - over the Wastl - Lackner way to the Hofpürgel hut (Ascend about 2 h) and back.
Walking time 3 ½ hours.
Magnificent views at the Bischofsmütze.
Sonnenalm - Ochsenalm - circular walk around the Rittisberg:
Retrieved from Mandling be reached after a pleasant hike the cultivated Sonnenalm (1 h) - as you want you can continue the hike to the Ochsenalm (¾ Std.) - and walk around the Rittisberg (2 ½ h) - again over the Ochsenalm back to Mandling.
Walking time 5 hours.
Easy hike.
High route from the Hochwurzen to the Ignaz Matthis hut:
A strenuous hike a spectacular mountain landscape, which leads to several peaks and requires endurance, footedness and good equipment.
Rise with the cable car to the Hochwurzen - then over the little Hochwurzen 1850 m - Hüttecksattel to the Roßfeld 1919 m - Latterfußsattel 1791 m - to the popular view-summit of the Guschen 1983 m.
From there the path leads further on over the Schneider summit 2009 m and over the western flanks of the Hochfeldes to the striking peak of the Schiedecks, 2339 m.
A brief ascend, you should visit this beautiful peak.
Two following mountain lakes, the Klamm lake and the Bretter lake, and the east wall of the Kampzähnen are the heart of this great trail.
Finally small serpentines leads to the well known Ignaz-Matthis hut (overnight stay).
The next morning follows the descent to the Ursprungalm approx. 1h, from where you go back at 9.20 o'clock with the bus to the base station of the Hochwurzen cable car.
Walking time about 7 hours.
Or you have the option to hike from the Ursprungsalm on the route 771 (scenic landscapes) through the forests and over mountain pastures back to the Hochwurzen (walking time about 4 h); descent with the cable car.
In the Seewig vale, to the Boden lake and to the Hans-Wödl hut on 1538 m:
Route No. 782; via a toll road from Aich and the Gössenberg you reach the parking.
In about 10 walking time you see the lake and you can rent a boat.
After 1 hours ascent you reach the Hans-Wödl hut at the hut lake, 1538 m.
This hut is because of its wonderful location a popular destination for day trips.
Whole walking time (also back) 2 ½ h.
Who wants to see more can follow the path to the upper lake (30 min).
Stierkar lake, 1810 m and Goldlacken, 2300m:
Starting point Pruggern in the Ennstal; from Pruggern with the car to the parking lot n the Sattental (9 km) - Tagalm - Stierkar lake - Goldlacken and back.
Walking time 6 hours (only to the Stierkar lake and back about 4 h)
Be certain to mark and cairn.
The water fall at the end of the valley and the view on the Stierkar lake are the effort worth.
